TIN SOLDIER FIGURINES.25 / 28mm SCALE

25mm TIN SOLDIER FIGURINES (above Scythians)
We use the traditional scale title of 25mm to describe the following ranges of figures. The figures actually measure 27mm from sole of foot to eye level, which makes them compatible with most modern manufactures, who use the term 28mm to describe the size of their product.

The Etruscans inhabited the central and northern areas of the Italian mainland. They built up an extensive trading empire across the whole Mediterranean from approx. 600BC - 200BC.
Their main opponents were the Greek colonies of Italy and Sicily, the Carthaginians, and of course the long wars with the emerging power of the Roman Republic.
Their equipment was based on that of the
Greek hoplite but with variants introduced from their contact with Spanish, Carthaginians, Eastern and local Italian sources.
All hoplites are supplied with spear, sword and hoplon shield. they can be supplied with pilum in place of the spear upon request.

The Samnites comprised several tribes of native Italians who inhabited the central sine of the Italian mainland. They were fiercely independent and for several centuries fought against the emerging power of Republican Rome. During the second Punic War, they allied themselves with Hannibal and the Carthaginians and formed a major part of his army.
after the close of the punic Wars, the Samnites formed separate legions and fought as allies/subjects of Rome. For each Roman legion, there was at least one allied legion present. The Campanians were originally Greek colonists who settled on the west coast of Italy in the region of Capua and Naples, South of Rome. Generally, they were allies of Rome , their cavalry being very good. they also supplied mercenaries to Sicily and the Carthaginians. Eventually they were absorbed into the ever expanding Roman state.
Samnites arms and armour were distinctive. Short tunics, some breastplate armour, Italian style helmets, various styles of early scutum shield and javelins were their usual weapons.
The Campanians equipment was more Greek in style with more ornate additions to helmets. Infantry was Greek hoplite type.

Situated to the north of Greece the land of Thrace features in Ancient History from approximately 500BC to 100BC. Thrace came into contact with Greece, Persia, the Scythians, and Rome. As Mercenaries or as allies the Thracians fought as superb light or medium infantry and the light cavalry from the time of the Persian invasions until the defeat of the last Successor states of Alexander. They evolved from tribal warriors in traditional fox skin caps and patterned cloaks, into regular, well armed and disciplined troops to hire to the Greek city states and Alexander and his Successors.

The Celts of continental Europe being migratory peoples, came into (often violent) contact with all the others inhabitants of the southern Mediterranean. They clashed with the peoples of Spain, the Etruscans and later the Romans of Italy. In the 3rd century BC. they raided Thrace, Greece and Asia Minor. Eventually carving out their own state of Galatia. The Carthaginians, various states of Asia Minor and Syracuse all used Celts as mercenaries. it was not until Julius Caesar in the mid 1st century BC. that the power and independence of the Celts was broken and Gaul became a roman province. There was very little difference between continental Gauls and the Celtic inhabitants of the British Isles. This range of figures is suitable for representing Celtic armies from approx400BC. to approx 30BC. the heavier chariot (similar to Etruscan), and the naked warriors are more suited to the earlier period.

ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS AND HINTS.
The ship comes in a sturdy polystyrene box designed to protect it during transit. When you have taken the ship parts out of the box, use a suitable glue to fix the prow, stern section and shield racks in place. We suggest you do NOT fix the mast permanently in the deck as this will make transport and storage of the finished model much easier. For ease of use and practicality, make a baseboard (for example from MDF or hardboard), fix the hull in position, model "sea" around the model (suggest DIY plaster mixed with PVA white glue) and then paint your "sea". Now fix the oars in position using a small amount of glue on each end of the oars. Oars rest in locating holes in hull and blade rests as if dipping in the water. Last, add the 2 steering oars, fixing or leaving loose.
CREW. We recommend approx 15 figures for a crew, representing mainly the marines, archers and other fighting troops that would have manned the upper deck. If selecting HCH figures for your crew, have a look at the Greek, Persian, Macedonian and Carthaginian ranges. Remember, Persian ships often had crews of Greeks, Phoenicians or Egyptians.
